A Day in the Life of a Development Intern

As a Development Intern, you will be responsible for realising new ideas for our artwork. Your main focus will be generating solutions to create physical prototypes.

You will work in a multidisciplinary Development team that consists of specialists in Engineering and Prototyping, Soft materials, movement, and Visual Design. The Development is responsible for realising and materialising the ideas into a refined artwork. No days are the same, nor are the projects. One day you will find yourself generating new concepts, the other day you will be detailing the last pieces of a work.

In addition, you will be:

  • Exploring or sketching out ideas

  • Solving technical solutions

  • Researching new materials or production techniques

  • Outlining and executing production processes

  • Working alongside motivated colleagues on various projects throughout the day

We would love it if you have:

  • Relevant experience with one or more of the following disciplines: Engineering and Prototyping, and Visual Design.

  • An assertive and self-developing mindset.

  • Effective problem-solving skills and a commitment to resolving technical and/or aesthetic challenges efficiently.

  • The ability to work as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds to help build the DRIFT museum opening this year.

  • You are doing an Art, Design, or Technical Education (higher vocational or university level) in which you specialise in one of the above-mentioned fields.

  • Excellent in English and preferably Dutch.

  • A passion for technology and art

  • Eligibility to work in the Netherlands with a valid visa or permit (hard requirement)

What you can expect from us

  • Internship allowance

  • We support your career growth by providing opportunities for skill development

  • Travel allowance if you live outside Amsterdam

  • Regular company days and staff social meet-ups

  • You will be part of a creative and dynamic team where your contributions matter and your voice is heard

  • You'll be working in an environment where art, creativity, and technology converge, offering a unique and inspiring work atmosphere in our studio

Apply for the job

Do you want to join our team as our new Intern Development then we'd love to hear about you!

This role centers around design and hands-on development. At this time, we are specifically seeking individuals with expertise in design and development, rather than software development.

Dutch artists Lonneke Gordijn (1980) and Ralph Nauta (1978) founded studio DRIFT in 2007. With a multi-disciplinary team of 48, they work on experiential sculptures, installations and performances.
